Default Warrior: Weapon Upgrade Farming

I'm Loshi. I like farming.

Green items are good and all, but why call 'I'm wielding a Kanaxai's Edge.' When I can call 'I'm wielding a Sundering Crenellated Sword of Fortitude.'

Which is rarer? Hrmm? Which is more impressive, rarer, and unique?

Besides. I always preferred Gold to Green any day of the week.

But, who wants to go out and farm incessantly to find a perfect drop? No one. That's right. No one.

So, what if, one day, in a chest run, you got a great base for a sword! Req8, 15^50, max dmg! But no mods. We need mods. Yes, that we do.

Enter Dwarves. (Don't be perverted)

Oh Dwarves, the forgemasters of the world. The finely-crafted axes, the honed swords, the fearsome mallets.

But in Nothern Shiverpeaks, max dmg is a foreign concept to these lvl 10-14 dwarves. But +30 HP pommels, 20/20 Sundering hafts, and 10% Adren hafts are not.

So, let's farm those buggers, eh?

Silverwing Slash (Or Sever Artery)
Galrath Slash (Or Gash)
Sun and Moon Slash
Dragon Slash
For Great Justice!
Tiger's Stance
Sprint, or Rush. A run skill, basically.
Healing Signet

10 Tac, 10Str, 15 Sword.

If you like Axes...

Penetrating Blow
Penetrating Chop
Executioner's Strike
Eviscerate
For Great Justice!
Tiger's Stance
Sprint, or Rush. A run skill, basically. Makes things quicker.
Healing Signet

10 Tac, 10 Str, 15 Axe

To be honest, you can use any build. The only things that will hurt you is Mesmers with Empathy. There's a monk boss. You can kill him in 3 hits. It's best to have max armor (I wear WeaponHelm, Dreadnoughts/Dragons Legs/Chest/Gloves, Knights Boots), because I seriously took like 0-3 damage from the guys.

The run is idiotically simple, with great rewards. Bring Steel Keys, there are chests.

Okay, so, start at Yak's Bend. Run out, go to the West, then North, zone into Iron Horse Mine.

Go West, kill everything, open chests, kill everything. When you get to the bridge, go north, and turn east, eventually going south, so you go through the actual mine. Kill everything. When you make it through, you should be at the zone. Zone out, zone back in, repeat until farming code kicks in. GG, Dwarves. GG.

Whats great is even though you get max mods (Fortitude, Sundering, and all the other good stuff) the weapons themselves are garbage, so you don't feel bad if you get a bad salvage. It's not like finding a +14% (vs hexed) 6-27 req13 Chaos Axe with +30HP and 20/19 Sundering, and you beat yourself up because you salvage 6 Iron Ingots from it.

Also a great source for crafting materials, be they Tanned Hides, Steel/Iron, and I think I even got some cloth, I think.

I got a lot of summit hammers. Nothing max, unfortunately. Sweet mods, though. And they were madhuge. I want one with decent stats. That'd be sweet. Would go well with Ice Breaker. Whammy 1 and Whammy 2, I would name them. <3

I'll post some maps tomorrow, when I play.

By the way, I'm sure pretty much any build would work. I don't know if they strip enchantments, but, as I said, the only problems I had was with the Sages, due to Empathy, and you can just stand there, HSig, and cut them down ASAP. Not a big issue.

So, comments/questions/all that junk is welcome.

Feel free to contact me in game, too, just please state why you're contacting me. I'm easily confused.

Oh, yeah, as a note: I found a 10 Armor, Req4 Tactics, Stone Summit Shield. It had +15 HP Always, but, here's the weird part: It had +10 Armor vs Dwarves. It dropped off a dwarf. I think some of those guys are cannibalistic. Maybe he was a dwarven gladiator, feared among the miitary ranks and rigid caste system that is the Dwarves? perchance he had fought many glorious battles, taken many lives, and earned the title 'Dwarfslayer' among his kin, and even tuned his shield with his exquisite craftsmanship, so as to further assert his superiority over his peers?

Whatever, I don't know, I just lopped his head off and moved on. C'est la vie.

Apologies for the excess words and stuff. I like to talk when it's late and I'm bored. Kudos to you if you read the whole dang thing. Gold star!

PICTURES

The run there. I took a longer route, it takes me through a couple bosses, so I got Morale boost. All that loot is blues, purples, and a gold, and was all obtained during that run.

Here's the run through the mine itself. I got an additional two golds, I showcased one of them. The Summit Axe you see is a perfect 20% \/ 50% HP, Ebon, +7 Vs Elemental Dmg axe. Gg.

Edit: Drop Sprint/Rush for Hex Eater Signet. Ftw.

What mods have you actually salvaged? And how many runs did it take you to get a perfect mod finally? I did a run only got like 2 purple runes and 30 summit badges, and 1 red dye. Nothing to see here it seems, however I did only one run.

PS-I didn't see any chests on the run either. =/

Are you sure you were in Iron Horse Mine? It's a zone... 2-3 chests each run, that I did.

I did 3 runs. The first was with a lvl 11 Ele and a lvl 12 Ranger, both friends of mine, I just told them to wait while I went and killed everything for their quest. +30 HP Pommel, and a 20/20 Hammer haft.

Second run, solo, I got a Superior Absorption, a 20/20 string, and the shield I mentioned.

Third, I got some stuff, but none of it successfully salvaged, so it's out of my memory.

I did do stuff (PvP, solo-green farming, i might have done a mission) inbetween each run. Maybe you got antifarm coded from prior farms?

Btw, I got other stuff, too, but you just asked about perfect mods.

That is the essence of farming, my friend!

I hope your luck turns.

The drops I've seen have been super nice, despite the fact that the weapons themselves are req4-5 and are non-max. 15^50, req4, non-max shortsword with +30hp pommel...Was odd to see.

Just to make sure... is this run something you do often and has been consistently good over time, or is it something you have done a few times and gotten a couple of memorable payouts from?

Cause, I gotta say, I just did 4 runs through here, killing every mob and getting every chest, and, well, it came up with a load of poop. In the end I left with about 1.3k per hour return. Even cave trolling is about an order of magnitude more profitable.

I just finished a complete run around the outside of the mine. Died a few times from Vampiric Touching and eventually DP got me down to 60% by the end. I found 2 chests; one just outside the mine and one inside. One gave a purple staff with a +25 mod and the other a purple staff with a +23 mod. I ended up dropping them both. Near the end, I got a gold 6-18 Summit Axe from a Beastmaster. Was really excited, because it turned out to be perfect Furious and perfect Fortitude. Salvaged it and got... 3 wood planks. Not sure if I'll be doing this again. My profit was a purple dye and .7% Tyrian exploration.

I'm sorry that you guys got lame drops, but I just got that near-perfect hammer mod, and some other great stuff.

It's called farming. Random drops dictate a lot. Just because you got a poor drop rate does not mean in any way that it's a poor spot, nor that my information is false/incorrect/misinterpreted.

Again, I'm sorry that you didn't get good drops, but as long as 1 other person is happy that they read this thread, I'm overjoyed.

GLHF, Happy Farming, Enjoy the Game.

Oh, and, by the way, you can trade in Stone Summit Badges at Droknar's Forge for collector's items, which sell for 125g each.

Haha - you guys have no idea about how frustrating it was for me to go through Borlis Pass solo for the cartographer title, and the last two beastmasters both dropped gold hammers. One of them a 15^50 summit hammer. Why, anet, why?

But you do get good stuff there. Alas, no dagger mods..

Thumbs up Nice Thread!!

Good stuff dude!!

Thanks for the ideas and very amusing post. This would be a perfect way to buff-up those near perfect or rare skin weapons.

Will definately try and farm some fortitude upgrades for my weapons now. Thanks again.

That thing right there made reading this thread worth while. Will try this run tonight, as I am pretty bored with guild wars right now .

So are you getting these perfect mods from the chests mostly? Or do you ever get a max mod on a drop from the Dwarves? So far, the best I got was from a chest...staff with +4 insightful head.
